Crossroads Divination: Hoodoo Hermeneutics and the Art of Tarot Reading
“There is nothing in the real world that is inert fact. Every reality is there for feeling: it promotes feeling and is felt.”- Alfred North Whitehead
“Let the Sign speak for itself.” – Hoodoo Elders
How do we begin to divine the Mystery, and what lenses are used to interpret the answers? Hoodoo, conjure, rootwork, are a few of the names by which this uniquely Southern magical system is known. Hoodoo, roots itself in the question, “How one can create the most poignant change using what is inherently present?” Born from divergent cultural, economic, political, and spiritual upheavals in American history, Hoodoo traditions of the South have incorporated Tarot not only as a means for prediction, but as a system filled with prescriptive rites, and recipes, worked to manifest your highest potential and broader possibilities. In this seminar we will begin an analysis of Southern tarot interpretation and the uses of prescriptive rites (ritual, magic, recipes, and ceremony) within the tarot lineages of Hoodoo.
Lou Florez is an internationally known speaker and lecturer of folk magic traditions of the South. ¦nbsp; He is a deeply rooted Spirit Worker, Priest, and Medium who has studied with indigenous elders and medicine holders from across the globe. Lou is a graduate apprentice of Catherine Yronwode’s Hoodoo Rootwork Correspondence Course and is a member of The Association of Independent Readers and Rootworkers, a gathering of professional practitioners of African American folk magic, hoodoo, conjure, and rootwork, who provide psychic readings and spiritual root doctoring services to the public. In 2008 Lou was confirmed as an Olorisha and Priest of Shango under Iyanifa Ifalade Ta’Shia Asanti of Ile Ori Ogbe Egun and is a Tata Nkisi in the Bacongo Tradition.¦nbsp; Lou took his minerval in 2005 and has been an active member of the O.T.O. ever since.

Gettin’ Made and Gettin’ Paid
Rufus will be presenting his very favorite Taurean topic, wealth magick! Over the course of a decade, RO has performed countless wealth rites with varying degrees of spectacular and horrifying success. In “Gettin’ Made and Gettin’ Paid,” Rufus will present Celestial and Terrestrial approaches to
working with planetary and elemental forces to establish and maintain an opulent life, relatively safely. Techniques of working with the planetary spirits of wealth are covered, as well as working with Bune, the 26th spirit of the Lemegeton’s Goetia. RO will also provide the key strategies that you must implement along with the magic to make the most of the opportunities you will find.
Rufus Opus is a professional Hermetic magician and teacher of the esoteric arts. He has authored several eBooks on the practical application of Hermetic Principles, and teaches the Red Work series of courses, an in-depth study of the process of the alchemical Great Work. With over 20 years of training and practice, RO is a firm believer that magical study should result in tangible, practical manifestations of a
better life, not only for the magician, but for everyone they come into contact with. For more information, see his web page at www.rufusopus.com, or start wading through his thousands of blog posts at http://headforred.blogspot.com.
The I Ching for Beginners
Join Frater Magog for an introduction to the divination system favored by Crowley over the tarot. Learn the meaning of the 64 hexagrams of this ancient Chinese system of divination used by Emperors and common folks for thousands of years. If you would like to participate by making your own hexagram, bring three alike coins and a pencil. This presentation is meant for the beginner, but all levels of experience are welcome.
Is a relatively new student of occult, but what he lacks in experience, he makes up for with his enthusiasm. He is especially interested in the I Ching, which was his first glimpse into divination. He is a student of English Literature here in the Twin Cities where he was born and raised. He took his Minerval in November of 2013 at Leaping Laughter Lodge.
The Invocation of the Heavenly Bridegroom
Lammassu Dam Ki Ag and Vivian Meretrix
The Invocation of the Heavenly Bridegroom is a dramatic ritual celebration of the achievement of knowledge and conversation with ones personal Holy Guardian Angel. The mystic marriage of the higher and lower selves coalescing into a singular union to achieve the individual’s True Will. This ritual honors the work of the great Ida Craddock, a forerunner of esoteric sexuality and free thought.
Lammassu Dam Ki Ag (Derek Schulze) first fell in love with painting when he was fifteen years old. He was born in Georgetown Texas, May 16, 1977. His B.F.A. in Painting was received from Texas State University. In 2005 he was accepted to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he studied Historic Preservation. For many years, Lammassu performed his duties as Art Director for the fraternal order, Aum. Ha. Lodge, O.T.O. He was a founding member and the Director of a cooperative gallery for Aum. Ha. Lodge called Thelemic Hands at Work. He also directed, produced and arranged the Liber Resh videos that can be found on YouTube and the latest movie from Aum. Ha. Lodge called Liber CL: Meditations in Light, Life, Love and Liberty which has premiered around the globe including France, Spain and Australia as well as at NOTOCON IX held in Sacramento, CA. He is currently freelancing as painter and graphic designer in the city of Chicago.
Vivian Meretrix is a long time student of esoteric subjects and an accomplished ritualist. She has presented dramatic ritual performances at Babalon Rising Pan Thelemic Festival and the National Ordo Templi Orientis Convention. She is an Ordained Priestess of the Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica and active member of Aum. Ha. Lodge, O.T.O in the valley of Chicago.
Ministering Angels: The Solomonic Roots of Enochian Magick
Scott Michael Stenwick
This presentation will put forth a methodology for working with the Enochian system of magic that is informed by the Solomonic grimoire tradition of the sixteenth century. These Solomonic foundations of John Dee and Edward Kelley’s original source material reveal a powerful method of practical magic. This thaumaturgic style of working with angelic spirits will be compared and contrasted with modern interpretations and uses of the system, in which the Enochian material is generally approached
as part of a theurgic structure based on scrying and complex analysis. The Enochian magical system has inspired many modern esoteric groups, including the various Golden Dawn traditions, Aleister Crowley’s A.’.A.’., and the Aurum Solis. However, much of the Enochian lore developed by these diverse groups is not drawn from and in some cases directly contradicts the source material. A more accurate perspective may be found by approaching the system as an advanced form of Solomonic grimoire magic instead of viewing it through the lens of nineteenth-century Hermetic Qabalah. In this light the tools and temple furnishings recommended for Enochian operations can be understood in their proper context and the
original intended ritual structures can be deduced in a straightforward manner.
Scott Michael Stenwick was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1969. A natural storyteller from early childhood, he was drawing pictures and assembling them into simple narratives before he could read or write. In elementary school he was exposed to computers when his school acquired an Apple II in 1977 and has been writing and programming ever since. He developed an interest in esoteric studies as a teenager following in the footsteps of his great-grandmother, a professional astrologer and medium,
and began practicing ritual and ceremonial magick. Scott attended Saint Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota and graduated in 1991 with a degree in psychology. In college he worked on two novels in
addition to his studies but eventually decided that neither was suitable for publication without substantial revision. One of these novels recently went on to become Arcana, released in December 2009 by Pendraig Publishing. Since then he has also written two non-fiction books on the Enochian magical system, Mastering the Mystical Heptarchy and Mastering the Great Table, which approach the material from a perspective inspired by the Solomonic grimoire tradition of the sixteenth century.
Scott lives in Minneapolis with his wife and two daughters, and works as a software developer and information technology consultant. After years of solitary magical and mystical work, he joined Ordo Templi Orientis in 1995 and became a Freemason in 1997. He currently serves as a Chartered OTO
Initiator and served as Master of Braden Lodge #168 for the 2002 calendar year. In addition, he is part of a smaller magical working group that has been in operation since 2002 and performed numerous experimental workings seeking to advance the general body of magical knowledge.
The Reuss Gnostic Mass
Satvrnvs Baphomet, Soror Na’amah, and Frater TOOT
The Theodor Reuss rendition of the Gnostic Mass. The Gnostic Mass was written in 1913, by Aleister Crowley, one year after his appointment by Theodor Reuss as X degree Head of the British Section of the O.T.O. That is the version we are familiar with in the modern O.T.O. However, in 1920 Theodor Reuss published a German variant. This is the performance of the German variant.
Satvrnvs Baphomet joined the Order in 1998, is a member of Leaping Laughter Lodge and Dionysos Chapter in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is an ordained Priest in the EGC and sits on the Committee of Four for Dionysos Chapter. He currently serves U.S. Grand Lodge as Initiation Secretary.
Soror Na’amah was born and raised in Minnesota by Catholic parents. After their divorce when she was 5 her mother switched from Catholicism to a charismatic non-denominational church and promptly moved her to a Christian school for the next 5 years. After everything experienced there from strict discipline to an unforgettable forced speaking in tongues event, she was left questioning everything she had ever been taught about Christianity and religion at the ripe old age of 11. Over the next 18 years or so she explored spirituality and was particularly intrigued with the Ancient Egyptians and the Tarot. In 1999 she met Satvrnvs Baphomet and learned about Ordo Templi Orientis and through him met the good members of Leaping Laughter Lodge. She joined the Order in 2000 and quickly became involved in the Body from participating in the Gnostic Mass and Initiations to eventually becoming the Secretary working closely with two different Bodymasters and seeing the Body’s growth from Camp to Lodge. She is an ordained Deacon and Priestess, a member of Dionysos Chapter where she sits on the Committee of Four. So also serves as the Grand Lodge Initiation Secretary. She has a degree in Television Broadcasting and currently works as a freelancer in many different aspects of professional sports broadcasting. She has worked for all major and minor sports teams in Minnesota as well as working on the recent All Stars Game for MLB Network and the Stanley Cup playoffs for NBC Sports. She is a married mother of 4 who loves to spend time with her husband and children in her spare time. Photography and reading fiction are her passions outside of work and the OTO.
